Get Some Sleep!

I couldn’t have been more surprised at the Council on Foundations breakfast plenary to hear Arianna Huffington — truly one of the country’s most influential people — tell us all to Get Enough Sleep! How is it possible that she is a spokesperson for life balance given all she does every day?

Over french toast, she reminded us of the need to unplug and rejuvenate in order to return refreshed to the work that is never done — investing in innovative ideas bubbling up throughout our communities.

As Rob Collier described in his earlier blog, in her role at AOL Arianna is now in charge of hundreds of community-based news sites and she is looking to spread good news stories that capture the human heart through those hubs (apparently they are hiring journalists, so tell your friends!).

I don’t think I will forget, as well, Arianna’s quip that men like to boast about their lack of sleep, as if it is positively correlated with virility. Hailing as I do from the Silicon Valley culture of overwork and undersleep (i.e., sleeping under your desk), I was delighted to start today with these messages.
