Philanthropy411 is currently covering the Fall Conference for Community Foundations conference with the help of a blog team.  This is a guest post by Brian Frederick, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Lorain County.

I got my rear end kicked by one of my Board members last night in the racing simulator at the Fall Conference host event at the Nascar Hall of Fame (or maybe shame in my case). The line was long the entire evening as group after group of our colleagues spent 4 long minutes trying to pump metal, stay on the track, and get the best time.  And of course the leader board posted running standings all night long.

I was struck by the contrast to the comradery and sharing that has filled the sessions earlier in the day.  The success and proliferation of community foundations in our country and throughout the world is largely due to the extent to which we share openly with one another.  Community foundations might well be the origin of  “open source”.

I’m profoundly proud to part of this field, and mighty glad I’m not a Nascar driver.
